You can freeze butter.
Butter can be frozen to extend the shelf life of the butter.
Both unsalted butter and salted butter freezes well and you can just thaw the frozen butter out by leaving it at room temperature.
Salted butter typically lasts for around 9 months in the freezer while unsalted butter lasts for around 5 months in the freezer.
However the butter will remain safe to consume after that time in the freezer but it's not as fresh.
Butter freezes without losing flavor or texture.
In fact, since butter can go bad after a few months in the fridge, it may make sense to store it in the freezer if you don't normally go through it quickly.
To freeze butter, wrap tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic freezer wrap, or place inside a heavy-duty freezer bag.
Frozen salted butter will keep at best quality for up to 12 months, unsalted butter will stay at best quality for about 6 months.
Butter may begin to lose its fresh butter taste and pick up flavors and odors from the freezer if stored for longer than four months.
Once the butter is removed from the freezer, use it within 30 days.
