When a prisoner escapes from prison the prisoner will usually be returned to the prison they escaped from if they are captured near the prison.

However if the prisoner is caught somewhere else away from the prison then they will usually be taken to Jail and detained until the prison system picks them up or they get transported back to the prison.

They may also have another court date when they are caught and be sentenced to a longer term in prison.

Most often though the prisoner gets taken directly back to the same prison they escaped from but then held in higher security.

If the prisoner continues to be an escape risk then they may then be transferred to a maximum security prison where escape is mostly impossible.

Escaping from prison is also a criminal offense in some countries, such as the United States and Canada, and it is highly likely to result in time being added to the inmate's sentence, as well as the inmate being placed under increased security that is most likely a maximum security prison or supermax prison.

A prison escape is the act of an inmate leaving prison through unofficial or illegal ways. Normally, when this occurs, an effort is made on the part of authorities to recapture them and return them to their original detainers.

This act, which may be defined in a variety of ways, is typically considered a criminal offense in most regions.

Common punishments for escape include formal penalties, like an additional jail sentence, and informal penalties, such as increased guards and a limitation of prisoner privileges.
