A RAID external hard drive is an external hard drive that connects to your computer with a lot of storage and has multiple hard drives.

The RAID stands for Redundant, Array of Inexpensive Disks.

Having the array of multiple disks helps to speed of the data transfers and also helps protect your data in the event one hard drive fails.

Web Servers have an array of RAID hard drives so that the servers can have lots of storage and also have fast data transfer speeds.

In a computer at home you typically have 1 internal hard drive to store the data and if you don't back up that data then you lose that data in the event the hard drive fails on you.

So it's a good idea to back up your data in the cloud and also on RAID external hard drives.

I have my data such as photos and other important files backed up in the cloud storage and also on a few RAID external hard drives.

I don't want to lose the data in the event of a hard drive failure.

The RAID hard drive is a way of logically putting multiple disks together into a single array.

The idea then is that these disks working together will have the speed and/or reliability of a more expensive disk.
