When away from my house should I turn the thermostat to my furnace way down when I'm gonna be away from my house to save money on my gas bill?

How low should I set my thermostat when away from home to save money on my gas bill?

I turn my thermostat down to 55 F when I'm away from my house for more than an hour.
If I'm gonna be back home within an hour then I leave it set to the 70 F I keep the house at.

Any longer it gets turned down to 55 F

Make sure you don't turn the furnace completely off or lower than 55 F because you risk freezing pipes and having a bunch of water damage and being without running water.
