Class E substances in MA are less powerful prescription drugs that contain lesser amount of codeine, morphine or opium, or "prescription drugs other than those included in Classes A, B, C, D.

What is a Class E Drug?

Narcotics that contain limited amounts of such substances as codeine, diphenoxylate, or opium are listed as Class E drugs.

The possession, distribution, dispensation, or manufacture of these substances may result in a fine of between $250 and $2,500 and/or a jail term of up to nine months.

Class A substances includes the harder drugs and the most commonly charged substance, Heroin.

Class B substances include drugs such as Cocaine, Ecstasy, amphetamines, and other related substances.

Class C Narcotics are usually prescription medications which sometimes get misused.

The Class C narcotics includes prescription tranquilizers and prescription narcotics such as Clonazepam, diazepam (Valium), and Hydrocodone (Vicodin;) Also mescaline, mushrooms (“psilocybin,”) and similar hallucinogenic drugs.

What is a Type C drug?

A category of controlled drugs (under the UK Misuse of Drugs Act 1971) which are the least dangerous, including benzodiazepines, stimulants, and sedatives.

Examples. Alprazolam, Librium, rohypnol, Valium.

What is the difference between a Class A and a Class C drug?

Class A drugs represent those deemed most dangerous, and so carry the harshest punishments.

Class C represents those thought to have the least capacity for harm, and so the Act demands more lenient punishment.
