The Drug Enforcement Administration conducts inspections due to several reasons. These include receiving information regarding prescriptions, different prescription practices for various patients or even to ensure that you follow all the regulations and rules. If any violations associated with controlled substances are discovered, the DEA can move towards legal procedures and even criminal prosecution.

These DEA inspections often take place with no prior warning towards the end of the day or right before the holidays. Make yourself well aware of all the policies and procedures concerned with ordering, storing and securing controlled substances. You must keep extensive reports that can be retrieved and submitted quickly to the DEA officers at the time of inspection.

When the DEA arrives, check their credentials and ID and also collect their information. Ask them why this inspection is being conducted. Find a room that can be used by the DEA inspectors. Sign the documents providing consent for inspection. If they request so, gives them the access to storage containers holding controlled substances. Also, provide them with the necessary documents when asked. Take a note of the document photocopies they take from you. If they want original papers, take their photocopies and maintain records.
