When websites open new tabs in Chrome or other browsers it's because the website is coded to do that.

However the browsers do have the options to not allow the websites from opening new tabs.

If you prefer to open the tabs and web pages in the same tab then you can go to the settings in Chrome by clicking on the wrench icon.

Or look for the settings button and then choose options.

The button should be in the top right hand corner below the x that closes the browser.

Then choose the “Options”.

Choose the “Under the Hood” tab and then select “Content settings”.

Click the “Pop-ups” tab, select the “Do not allow any sites to show pop-ups (recommended)” radio button and then choose “Close”. Mozilla: Pop-up blocker.

You need to prevent pop ups from occurring which prevents chrome from opening new tabs.
