For some prisoners they're able to leave their prison cells for most of the day and can go outside in the rec yard where they spend most of their day.
And some pass the time watching TV in the rec room or by playing cards or other board games.
For those who can't leave their prison cells such as those in Solitary confinement they mostly just go insane out of boredom being locked in a prison cell all day.
