Yes chickens do know their owners after awhile.

Once a chicken gets used to being around you they can get really friendly and recognize you as their owner and if they see a stranger they may try to peck at them or run off and hide.

I've had chickens as a kid on a farm and they always seemed to recognize us but when a stranger came by they would sometimes try to peck at them.

There's no way to overfeed chickens.

When you put out chicken feed for your chickens the chickens will eat enough of the chicken feed until they are full.

Then after the chicken is full they will stop eating and wait until they are hungry again to eat more chicken feed.

The chickens know when to stop eating so they do not get overfed.

When I lived on a farm as a kid we would always just fill the chicken feed troughs for the chickens and it would sometimes last the chickens a few days or so before they needed fed again.

So if you want you can just fill a huge container with chicken feed and make sure it does not get wet and the chickens will eat when they want too.

We also did this when we went on vacation and just had a neighbor down the road stop in to make sure they had plenty of water while we were gone.

it never was a problem doing that.
