If a network locks your handset, it will only work with the provider from whom you purchased it until the contract expires. You will specifically have to ask your network carrier to unlock your phone after the due course is complete. To find out if a network locks your phone, simply try inserting a SIM card from another carrier. If the SIM card works on your device, it is already unlocked. One way to unlock your phone is to take it to a local shop that will charge you some money to unlock your phone. Another method requires you to have a fair technical knowledge about the device. Make sure that your device is being unlocked by safe hands as it will terminate your warranty and any defects will require you to pay. You can unlock a phone from a network if you get the network or cell phone provider to unlock your cellphone for you.

Or if you're a good hacker or can really find out on how to unlock you could do it yourself.

But for the average person it can be hard to unlock the phone from the network until the phone contract is up.

Once the phone contract is up you can usually have the cellphone company unlock the cellphone for you.
