The length of time that you have to stay in jail for theft depends on what you actually stole and the value of the stolen item or stolen stuff that you actually stole.

If the value of the item is less than $500.00 then you may not even get arrested and may just get a summons to appear in court.

Basically the police will just make a case of it and then you'll have a court date which you have to show up too.

If you do not appear in court then a warrant for your arrest will be issued and then you'll go to jail.

However if the value of the stuff or item you stole was over $500.00 then if caught you'll likely go to jail that day and then have a bond set.

You could then bond out of jail until your court date.

If convicted of the theft of the higher value item or items you could face up to 1 year in jail or even 5 years in prison.

But if the item you stole was something less than $100.00 in value then you'll likely just have to pay a fine or do community service.

Still stealing is not right and not a good thing because it can affect your employment and your record for life.
