If you respond to the Jury Duty Summons and need to defer or postpone the Jury Duty you are allowed to defer or postpone the Jury Duty for up to 2 times per year.

You cannot defer or postpone the Jury Duty more than twice in a year.

However if you never respond to the Jury Duty Summons you never need to make excuses and try to get out of it.

You cannot legally be forced to serve on a Jury and they cannot prove you even got the letter if you never respond to it.

The Jury Duty letters are sent standard mail and not certified mail so they cannot prove you even got it.

I've always just thrown out my Jury Duty letters and never have gotten in trouble for it.

Yes you can avoid jury duty and never have to serve on the Jury.

The simplest way of completely avoiding jury duty is to throw the letter away and not respond to it.

If you do not respond to the Jury Summons they cannot prove you got the Jury Duty summons letter in the first place.

Once you respond then you have to try to prove you have something that prevents you from serving on the Jury Duty.

You can prove hardship or if you have a mental illness, cannot serve for other reasons etc.

But the best thing to do is just not respond.

I've gotten Jury Duty Summons letters several times over 15 years and never have responded to them and never once have I gotten into trouble for not responding.

I've been into court for other things and never have been into trouble for not responding to the Jury Duty.
