Can I live in one state and claim residency in another?

Yes you can live in one state but claim residency in another state as long as you have property you own in that state that you're claiming residency in.

You need an actual address such as a street address in the state that you're claiming residence in and that can be your domicile.

So as long as you have a residence in the other state where you can get your mail and other things listed as the address you can live in the other state.

Then claim the residency in the other state.

Some people have more than one house and live part time such as for 6 months at one residence in one state and then 6 months they live in the other state.

Then they just have one residence and address listed for things such as vehicle registration, insurance, drivers license, Income Tax purposes etc.
