Gas stations can be profitable if the gas station is located in the right place such as a very populated area of more than 1,000 people or if the gas station is located right off an interstate.

Most gas stations make only around 3 to 10 cents per gallon of profit on the gasoline so the gasoline part itself is not all that profitable.

However one busy gas station owner that I know said that he makes around $3,000.00 per month profit on the gasoline he sells.

However he's located on an interstate and the place is very busy and he sells a lot of gasoline as well as diesel.

Then he makes around another $5,000.00 profit inside the store.

But smaller gas stations may not even break even on the gasoline sales or may only make around $50.00 to $200.00 per month profit on the gasoline.

Most of the profit for gas stations is from sales of stuff inside the store such as Soda, Food, Snacks Etc.

If there's a gas station in a small town of less than 1,000 population that closed and is for sale then I would not want to buy it as it's likely not profitable at all and may be a reason the gas station closed down.

There's a small gas station here in my town and they said they may stop selling gasoline because they are actually losing money on the gasoline and some of it evaporates out of the tank well before they are able to sell the gasoline completely.

They also have to pay more for the gasoline than other larger gas stations do.
