Hawks do not hunt at night but instead hawks are the most active in the early AM to mid morning then again in the late afternoon during the summertime.
Hawks will hunt for prey just before the nightfall and just when it's starting to get dark but the hawk does not hunt all through the night.
They use the darkness though to prey on animals and make it easier for the hawk to capture it's prey.
But hawks are sleeping most of the night but go out for a short time in the night hours before it gets too late and then they return to their nests for the rest of the night.
Then in the morning or late evening the hawk goes out again to hunt.
