Mothballs do help some to get rid of skunks because most skunks hate the smell and aroma of moth balls and will avoid those areas.

You can also soak some cotton balls in ammonia and the skunk will avoid those areas as well but you need to replace the cotton balls with freshly soaked ammonia cotton balls.

You could also pee in a cup and then after your urine gets stale and turns to ammonia smell you can soak cotton balls in that urine and then place the cotton balls soaked with old urine in areas to keep the skunks away.

Also setting sprinklers on motion activated sensors can also help deter skunks as well.

Citrus peels and even bright lights that are motion activated when the skunk comes up to it and sets off the motion detector will scare off skunks.

Sometimes if the skunks keep coming back you may need to actually shoot the skunks and get rid of them before they spray you, your kids or your pets.
