Yes synthetic oil is made from coal.

The synthetic oil that is made from coal goes through a process to turn the coal into liquid which then creates the synthetic oil.

Making synthetic oil can curb our need for much crude oil in the future as there are other ways now to make oil instead of just having crude oil.

Crude oil eventually will run out in about 150 years so it's a good idea to have more options available to make oil and fuel that we need.

Recycling used motor oil is also a good idea because it takes millions of years to make new oil.

Using corn to make fuel is also good for adding it to the gasoline which is ethanol and gasoline mixed together to make the gasoline last longer.
