How do I stop my 3 year old from running away from diaper changes?

My 3 year old son refuses and hates having his diapers changed whenever he wets or poops in them and will scream and throw a fit when I try to change his diaper.

He refuses to use the potty but doesn't want to get his diaper changed but doesn't seem to mind wearing the diaper and doesn't seem bothered by a wet or poopy diaper.

I tried telling him that if we change his wet diaper or his poop diaper that he'll feel much better but he doesn't seem to care.

I have to hold him down and fight him while he screams just to change his diaper and it's worse when there is poop in it.

What can I do as I'm at my wits end with him.

Your 3 year old son probably enjoys the wet and messy diapers and I don't blame him as a wet and messy diaper feels good.

But you do have to change him even though he doesn't like it.

If you leave your 3 year old in the wet or messy diaper all day and overnight then eventually by the next day his private area will begin burning as a result of the ammonia.

Believe me it's not a good feeling and makes you want to get out of the diaper.

I love diapers myself but after I kept the same diaper on all day and all night and then part of the next day my balls started burning and I decided that it was time for a diaper change.

It gets very painful and the rash will go away soon so there's really no harm if you let your son stay in the same diaper all day and all night.

Just be aware that the diaper will probably leak so protect his bed and furniture.

Believe me if you just avoid changing his diaper and wait for at least a day and night then by morning he'll be wanting to get his diaper changed or he'll rip the diaper off himself.

That did actually work for my son after I was given the advice on a parenting forum about it.

It does seem cruel and I was hesitant but I gave it a try and it does work.

I went through this same thing with my 3 year old son who is now 6 years old and thankfully out of diapers so no more diaper changes.

But what I did was exactly what the poster Pamperslover posted about.

Although it seems cruel to not change the kids diaper for over 24 hours it's not gonna hurt them and I was suggested this by an online forum.

Just let him stay in the wet or messy diaper and after about 24 hours in the same diaper he'll begin to get uncomfortable and then either come to you and ask you to change his diaper or he'll take the diaper off himself.

After leaving my son in his diaper for 24 hours without changing it he suddenly came to me and told me that he was hurting down there and asked me to change his diaper.

I did and he wasn't really getting a bad rash but it was beginning to hurt him enough to make him uncomfortable and after that I had no issue with fighting about diaper changes.

He eventually potty trained soon after that too because he didn't want to be in diapers anymore.
