When a person has a status hearing the status hearing is to check on the status of the case and see if theirs enough evidence to go to trial.

There could be a few more status hearings checking on the status of the case before the judge sets a trial date.

The status hearing is used to determine if the case can be plea bargained , discover issues , or to set the case for trial.

Usually during the status hearing the trial date is set for a later date if there is enough evidence in the case for it to go to trial.

Or if there's not enough evidence then the case may sometimes be dropped.

It all depends on the severity of the case but if the case is severe then if you're already in jail you'll be sent back to jail until trial date.
