When someone has a citation after booking it means that the person has been released on the scene of arrest.

The person being arrested is given the citation and is told to appear in court on a certain date instead of being taken to jail.

So the person who was given the citation didn't actually go to jail but has been arrested but released on scene and then has made a promise that is written to appear in court on a certain date.

If the person doesn't appear in court on the certain date then they can have a warrant issued for their arrest and then be taken to jail.

So if someone has been given a citation after booking then they must show up to court or they'll come after you.

Sometimes though a citation if it were given in jail and the person was booked into jail means that the person is released from custody and can go home but must appear in court on a certain date.
