Do all car accidents need to be reported to the police?

My sister got into a little fender bender car accident today and she didn't make a report to the police since the other driver didn't want to waste time reporting the car accident since not much damage was done and nobody was hurt.

Was she right or wrong in not reporting this fender bender car accident to the police?

I thought you were supposed to call the police and report any car accident that you're involved in?

I can't fully and truthfully say if your sister did right or wrong. It can depend on the State you live in.

Some States and counties won't even come out for a minor non injury accident to take a report so the cops might not have come to the accident anyway.

In some states you just go into the police station and make an accident report there.

I would have gotten written documents from the other driver stating they didn't want to report the accident just in case the other driver decides to change their mind and sue your sister for the accident.

One thing you should always do after any car accident is exchange information with each driver.

She needed to get the other drivers insurance information and the other driver needed your sisters insurance information.

It could be that the other driver didn't even have insurance since the other driver refused to report the accident.
