You can legally be buried on your own property or bury family on your own property as long as the zoning laws allow it.

You would need to check with local zoning laws as in most cities and towns you cannot really legally be buried on your own property and would need to be buried at a cemetery.

But if you own land in a rural area or a farm then you can legally be buried on your own land and will most likely still require a burial vault to be put in place for health conditions and the body has to be buried 6 feet deep.

You can use anything for a coffin and must use a funeral director in most states and counties but you don't have to have a funeral.

Also as long as the person did not die of any disease you are not required to have embalming done either.

I've got a few family members buried on a farm including a Great Grandpa who died and lived on that farm and wanted to be buried on that farm.

Of course he died around 30 years ago and the laws back then were different than they were today.

He was buried in just a wooden coffin that he made himself and was not buried in a vault and he wasn't embalmed either.
