The time you must serve in prison before you come up for parole will depend on your sentence but if you're sentenced to 15 years to life you must serve at least those mandatory 15 years in prison before you become eligible for parole.
If you're sentenced to 25 years to life you must serve at least the 25 years in prison before coming up for parole.
If your sentence has life on the end of it with parole there are no guarantees that you will actually be released from prison.
If you do have life with parole then you should do your best to do good while in the prison for your mandatory term so that you can see the parole board in 15 or 25 years.
Even though that is a long time you still may not have to serve the rest of your life behind bars.
But after that and you don't get out then you can either do whatever you want to try to come up for parole again in another 10 or 25 years.
When a felon or anyone else is on parole they must not leave the state without the parole officers permission and the parole officer must know wherever you are at all times.
The felon won't be given permission to leave the state while on parole unless there are special circumstances such as an ill family member or they are working on a job that requires them to temporarily leave the state or there is a death in the family and the felon on parole needs to travel and leave the state to attend the funeral.
If you're on parole after serving a prison sentence then you must remain in the state you were paroled in.
You must report to your parole officer on time and when required or you can be arrested again and go back to prison.
A parole officer may suddenly show up at your house without notice to make sure you're following the rules when on parole.
Sometimes being on parole is worse than prison for some people but being out of prison would be worth it to deal with parole.
If you get parole do not mess it up because you'll end up right back in prison and eventually you should not have to report to your parole officer if you do good.
You can travel and leave the state in some cases but you must get the parole officers permission and report to the parole officer at all times through telephone etc.
