Is it illegal for an adult to talk to a minor online?

I'm an adult and I subscribed to a channel on youtube that is operated by an 11 year old minor.

I've been talking back and forth with him in the comments section because I love his videos he does.

I don't talk sexual or anything just talking about his videos and other interests.

I suggested the channel to a friend and he said that I shouldn't be chatting with the minor and I should unsubscribe from the channel and delete my comments because I can get into trouble with the law for simply chatting with the minor?

It's not illegal to talk to a minor online so long as you don't talk about or solicit sex from the minor.

You won't get in trouble just conversing with the 11 year old or being subscribed to him.
