Hosting Wikipedia.org takes a whole lot of web servers to serve the large database of content to the billions of website visitors around the world.

In the year 2008 Wikipedia.org had 200 application servers, 20 database servers and 70 squid cache servers.

That was 11 years ago and Wikipedia.org has more servers than that now.

Wikipedia.org now has thousands of web servers to host Wikipedia.org and those servers are spread out among data centers in several server racks.

According to Wikimedia.org the Wikimedia Foundation's servers are spread out in five colocation data centers in Virginia, Texas and San Francisco in the United States, Amsterdam in Europe, and Singapore in Asia.

So running Wikipedia.org takes a lot of servers and resources and is not cheap at all to run monthly or yearly.
