If you have an inverter generator then it would be a safer option to run your TV from but if you're using a regular generator then it can fluctuate in voltage which can damage the TV or other sensitive electronics.
You could use your TV with a regular generator with a surge protector and if your generator is running properly and not surging up and down then the voltage should stay stable.
I've used my regular generator with a surge protector and my TV plugged into it and it's always been fine.
So you could use either an inverter generator or have a surge protector with the TV and the regular generator.
Some electronics will be fine with the generator but be aware that you can get potential damage to it so just use a surge protector or inverter with your generator to be sure that it protects your TV.
