In most cases theft of electricity or stealing electricity is gonna be charged a misdemeanor especially if you're only charged the first time and only stole in the amount of around $150.00 worth of electricity.

If you steal more than $150.00 in electricity then it becomes a third degree felony in most cases and if it was the persons second or third offense the charges get more serious.

Most times you may only get 6 months to a year in jail and maybe a fine for stealing the electricity especially if it's your first offense.

But even then it's very dangerous to be tampering with the electricity meter especially if you don't know what you're doing and it could lead to death or severe injury.
