The first ever light emitting diode was invented in the year 1962 by Nick Holonyak Jr who was employed by General Electric.

The light emitting diode that Nick Holonyak Jr invented was a red LED which emitted light in the visible part of the frequency range.

Then in 1972 M. George Craford invented the first yellow LED and a much brighter LED.

LED screens and bulbs have been around much longer than most people realize but weren't really put out to the masses for years until it was developed.

The first LCD TV's were not as good as today's LCD and LED TV's so not many people bought them in the early days.

But overtime LED and LCD TV's got much better and cheaper.
