At some county jails the correctional officers are almost always considered law enforcement officers and have the same powers as a law enforcement office on the streets.
But at most prisons a correctional officer is considered law enforcement but only for the prison they're operating in and in some cases the correctional officer may be able to make an arrest of someone trespassing on prison property but in other cases the correctional officer will have to call local law enforcement to trespass the person.
At most a correctional officers job in a prison is to just guard the prisoners and make sure no prisoners escape the prison and keep the peace inside the prison yards and prison walls.
