To make your home less attractive to burglars put out a security sign that states your home is secured with a security system and cameras are watching.
Most burglars look for those security signs when deciding whether to break into a home so it can deter some burglars.
Also make sure you keep your grass trimmed and well manicured as it shows someone is there and keeping brush cleared helps prevent hiding spots for the burglars.
Close the blinds especially when you're not home so that the burglars can't see what is inside your home.
Hide any valuables in less obvious places and destroy any boxes of anything such as electronics before throwing them away.
If you get magazines or newspapers make sure they're not left out when you're gone and have someone pickup your newspapers and mow your grass while you're gone on vacation.
Set timers to turn on a radio and make the radio loud enough to where you can at least hear it outside.
Also you can let the police know that you're gonna be gone on vacation and they'll drive by when they're in the area and check on the place.
If you have a trusted neighbor have them keep check on things and call the police if someone isn't supposed to be over there at your house.
