If the computer is still good and worth using after the hard drive fails then yes it can be worth replacing the hard drive in the desktop computer.

Actually in 2008 I bought a new desktop computer and when I bought it the 2008 desktop computer had Windows XP on it and was okay for the time and I used it for 10 years with Windows XP.

Then the hard drive was starting to go so I went online and bought a new old stock hard drive for $13.00 and installed it in the desktop computer and then installed Windows 10 on the computer.

The computer was a bit slow but I added another 1 GB of ram for another $10.00 so now the old computer has 2 GB of ram and a good hard drive with windows 10 on it and it works just fine for browsing the internet.

So for $23.00 I gave new life to the 2008 desktop computer I bought new over a decade ago and it's still going strong right now and probably will still work for another 10 years.

It's not good for things such as gaming or video editing but for browsing the internet it works just fine.

So in my opinion it's worth it to replace the hard drive if you can do it for cheap enough but if you have to hire someone to replace the hard drive then you'd be better off buying a new desktop computer.
