Longer domain registration length was just a lie that domain registrars put out in emails to try and get you to register domains for a longer period of time.

It has no weight in ranking your website. If you plan to keep the domain and want to register it for longer then it can't hurt anything. But don't register your domain longer than a year just because of search engine rankings.
