If you need to hire a lawyer but are low on income then you might look to law schools for free or cheap legal help.
Also check out the American Bar Association website to see if you qualify for free legal help through pro bono programs.
Also most times you should be able to be appointed an attorney at least for free through the courts although those court appointed attorneys are not always as good at representing clients in court as a paid attorney but it's better than nothing.
You can also if you know what you're doing represent yourself in court without an attorney.
