Orthorexia is a type of eating disorder in which a person is obsessed with eating foods that are considered healthy.
A person with orthorexia is also where a person systematically avoids certain foods in the belief that the foods are harmful.
The symptoms of orthorexia include.
Guilt or self punishment when straying from a healthy or clean diet.
Social isolation or withdrawal.
Depression and or high anxiety.
Low self esteem and negative body image.
Malnutrition.
And weight loss.
Orthorexia nervosa is best described as having an obsession with healthy eating with associated restrictive behaviors.
Although the attempt to attain optimum health through attention to diet may lead to malnourishment, loss of relationships, and poor quality of life.
The key to treating and fixing orthorexia, instead of aiming for perfection is to look to include some of each food group in every meal you eat.
Replacing processed foods with fresh ingredients whenever possible is a good place to start in fixing orthorexia.
Similarly, cooking foods at home instead of relying on take-out foods is also helpful in maintaining a healthy diet.
