To stop overeating and control an eating disorder you can seek and use talk therapy such as psychotherapy as well as medical monitoring and nutrition education and some medicines.

Eating disorder treatments can also involve taking care of other medical problems that can be caused by an eating disorder or make it worse.

Also stay active and try to focus on other things and ensure you're getting the proper nutrients and eat regularly but not excessively and avoid dieting which can trigger more binge eating and lead to a vicious cycle which is hard to break.

The point that it is an eating disorder is when you either eat excessively in 2 hours or less and or exercise excessively to prevent weight gain after eating.

Other things that cause it to be an eating disorder are you spend a lot of time worrying about your weight and your body shape and you avoid socializing when you think food will be involved or you eat very little food and make yourself sick or take laxatives after you eat.

Behaviors that are associated with eating disorders include avoidance of certain foods, binge eating, restrictive eating, purging by vomiting or use or misuse of laxatives or compulsive exercise.

Things that can trigger an eating disorder are stressful life events such as trauma or loss, relationship problems, physical illness or even stress from college, pregnancy or marriage.

Genes can also play a role in eating disorders and even depression may lead to eating disorders.

There is really no root cause or one cause for an eating disorder.

However some things that may cause an eating disorder include environment, stressful events, genes and even poor body image.

Social pressure, trauma, athletic pressure, mental health disorders and dysfunctional family dynamics can also play a role in eating disorders.

An eating disorder is a behavioral condition that results in severe and persistent disturbances in eating behaviors and are also associated with distressing emotions and thoughts.

Some eating disorders can be more serious than others and affect social function, physical function and even psychological function.

The most common eating disorder is anorexia, followed by bulimia.

Most types of eating disorders involve the focusing too much on weight, food and body shape.

These things can lead to dangerous eating behaviors and can seriously affect your ability to get the proper nutrition that your body requires.

Common signs that someone has an eating disorder include.

Cutting your food into small pieces or eating the food very slowly to disguise how little you're eating.

Avoiding eating with other people.

Lying about how much and when you've eaten or how much you weigh.

And dramatic weight loss.

Focus on managing your triggers. Stress, boredom, and emotional states often lead to overeating, so try to address those with healthy coping strategies. Eat smaller portions and take your time with meals. Mindful eating helps, too—pay attention to your hunger and fullness cues, and avoid distractions like TV. Lastly, having a balanced routine with regular meals helps prevent those “out-of-control” moments.
