Anteaters are mostly harmless to us humans as long as you stay away from them and don't go near the anteater.
An anteater can actually cause severe harm to humans if they feel threatened and can give you life threatening wounds.
But most anteaters are pretty shy animals and do their absolute best to avoid any humans so just don't be a threat to the anteater and stay far away from one when you see one and you'll be fine.
I've been around anteaters out in my yard before and they never bothered me but I didn't get close to it and it didn't bother me.
