When you open your legs and it smells like urine it's usually a result of Bacterial Vaginosis or a urinary tract infection or Menopause.

In some cases you may simply have had some leftover urine between your legs after you've peed and haven't wiped or cleaned it off.

If you continue to smell urine when you open your legs you should see a doctor about it.

Sometimes, urine leaking can cause urine to build up on your underwear or skin.

This can lead to a smelly groin.

If you have a urinary tract infection, you may especially feel like the smell lingers.

Bacterial vaginosis is a bacterial infection which happens when the different kinds of healthy bacteria in your vagina get out of balance and grow too much.

Bacterial vaginosis is often caused by gardnerella vaginalis, the most common type of bacteria in your vagina.

If you have no symptoms, treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis is usually not required.

Bacterial Vaginosis is 'self-limiting' (meaning it will go away by itself).

Many people with Bacterial Vaginosis do not experience complications.

However, Bacterial Vaginosis has been linked with early pregnancy loss (miscarriage), premature labour and low infant birth weight.
