The length of time that SSD drives really last is between 5 years to 10 years.
The average lifespan of SSDs is 5 to 10 years under normal usage conditions.
Although an SSD drive may fail after only 3 years in some cases and some SSDs may last longer.
SSD drives store data by using flash memory cells.
The flash memory cells are programmed by changing their electric charges.
And each P/E cycle will gradually degrade the memory of the flash memory cells until they've worn down and then the SSD can no longer store any information.
Always make sure you back up any important data and have the data on more than one drive including flash drives and stored in the cloud.
For my important data I keep data on a few different flash drives, memory cards and external hard drives.
The quality as well as usage and cell density of the SSD drive all affect the lifespan of the SSD drive.
Higher quality SSD drives last longer in most cases than cheaper less quality SSD drives.
The same is true for memory cards and flash thumb drives.
