Shohei Ohtani did tear his labrum in his left (non throwing) shoulder.
Shohei Ohtani sustained the torn labrum injury in his left shoulder during Game 2 of the 2024 World Series when he attempted to steal second base.
Following the torn labrum, Ohtani had successful arthroscopic surgery to repair the labrum tear, which was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, in Los Angles, the Dodger's head physician.
He then returned successfully in time for the start of the following season, although the labrum tear added an additional layer of rehab to Ohtani's ongoing recovery from a separate right elbow (UCL) surgery, although he has been cleared to resume throwing.
Shohei Ohtani also sleeps so much because he views recovery as an active and critical part of his training.
Because of his unmatched workload, as a 2 way player, sleep is Ohtani's primary method of repairing muscle tissue, resetting his mind and also maintaining peak performance during his grueling 162 gaming seasons.
Shohei Ohtani sleeps up to 12 hours a day or around 10 hours at night and a 2 hour pregame nap.
In an interview video that Nishikawa released, Ohtani also revealed that he takes naps as part of his training routine in MLB, which has a 162-game season.
"In Major League Baseball, many games are played consecutively.
(So if I don't take naps, I won't be able to recover in time.)
Shohei Ohtani also has an endorsement with the Japanese bedding company Nishikawa, and he also travels with a custom, foldable portable mattress to ensure that his sleep environment remains identical when on the road.
The reason why Ohtani is so tall is mainly the result of his strong athletic genetics.
Both of Ohtani's parents were competitive athletes and due to the strong athletic genetics Ohtani measures 6 foot 4 inches tall.
Ohtani's father, Toru, played baseball in Japan's top tier industrial leage, and his mother, Kayoko, was also a competitive badminton player.
MLB also had previously listed Ohtani at 6 foot 3 inches tall.
But, league wide accurate measuring methods were also implemented for the Automated Balls and Strikes ABS system, which confirmed the true height of Ohtani at 6 foot 4 inches tall.
Shohei Ohtani is a Japanese professional baseball designated hitter and pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball.
Nicknamed "Shotime", he has previously played in MLB for the Los Angeles Angels and in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
Shohei Ohtani does not have a twin brother.
Shohei Ohtani has two older siblings: an older sister named Yuka and an older brother named Ryuta, who is seven years older and manages the Toyota East Japan corporate baseball team in Japan.
