The difference between robbery and theft is robbery is the using of force or fear to take something from a person's immediate possession and theft is simply stealing someone's property without the use of force or fear to take it.

Robbery is a more serious violent crime and theft is a less serious property crime.

Theft can be a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the value stolen.

Robbery is almost always a felony in the US as it's a violent person offense.

Robbery involves the taking or stealing of something from another person by using force, violence or threatening force.

Robbery can be a first degree felony or second degree felony depending on the type of robbery committed.
