If your tires smell hot after driving then the tire is heating up and it's likely because the tire is under inflated or you're putting too much load on the tires.

Spinning the tires such as on ice or slick pavement can also cause the tire to heat up and cause a burning rubber smell.

If the tire feels hot then it's likely the tire smelling of rubber.

Although some other things can also cause a burning rubber smell such as the belts or even brakes getting hot could cause a burning smell.

Sometimes, a burning rubber smell could be coming from an oil or fluid leak, or even a damaged or worn out drive belt.

The most common reason why your car smells like burning rubber is due to an oil leak or coolant leak.

It can also be caused by a slipping serpentine belt, sticking brake calipers, slipping clutch, or any external objects stuck in the engine bay.

If you are smelling a burning smell (almost like burning hair), the issue is most likely your brakes.

Typically in this case, you are burning your brake pads, which may have a variety of causes.

The most common are intensely worn out brake pads.

Also if you're stopping too much and sliding then the tires may heat up such as the front tires when you skid a little.
