A 1 year old can use a small indoor slide.

However you still may need to help them up the slide and then help guide them down until they get used to it.

A one year old can go down a small slide at home.

Just make sure you're near them and you may need to help the one year old up onto the little slide and then hold onto them as they get used to sliding down.

However a one year old baby is too little to go down larger slides unless they are in your lap.

My dad used to put me on his lap when I was one year old and younger and go down the slide with me.

It wasn't until I was almost 2 that my dad would let me go down a slide by myself.

Once your toddler is between the ages of 18 and 24 months old, they should be able to climb up and slide down a small plastic slide even without your help.

For more significant slides found in parks or playgrounds, your child should be at least two years before you let them try it out.

If you have a small plastic slide in your backyard, your 18- to 24-month-old toddler will probably be able to climb up and slide down without your help.

Slides are safe if kids are careful when using them.

Guidelines to keep in mind: Children should take one step at a time and hold onto the handrail when climbing the ladder to the top of the slide.

They should not climb up the sliding board itself to get to the top.

Slides are very good for kids.

Kids get a better sense of their position and location as they slide, using proprioception.

Sliding also helps develop the vestibular system as kids move swiftly down a slide and come to a stop.

Their vestibular systems process that information, and sliding can help improve a child's balance, as well.
