I don’t think I would bother giving a one-year-old privacy, but by age two or three I would (if it is safe to do so in this situation and if he or she is able to feel and express embarrassment).

If (on the other hand) the child is not able to experience embarrassment yet (or if close supervision is required in this situation, for safety reasons) then I would probably watch him or her and do a change once he or she is finished.

When a toddler poops their diaper I believe you should give them some privacy once they are old enough to be embarrassed or for example when the toddler wants to be left alone in the house etc such as by going behind a chair, curtain etc to hide.

Once the toddler is hiding to poop then they are becoming aware that they are pooping their diaper and want to be left alone.

In that case you should let the toddler be alone until they poop their diaper.

However if the toddler is just fine pooping their diaper wherever and in front of people then there's no need to give the toddler privacy.

I've hated it when my family would make a big deal about my toddlers pooping their diaper such as laughing at their grunts and watching them fill their diaper.

Yes their poop face is funny but they should be given privacy at times.

When we laugh at them etc we make them feel bad about what they are doing and they should not feel bad about pooping their diaper as that is what they are supposed too do.

Although in public the toddler should not be left alone to poop in their diaper but you should be right there with them.
