Some ways to stop your heart from racing include.

Sit down and relax and try breathing slow deep breaths.

Splash cold water on your face, which stimulates a nerve that manages your heart rate.
Breathe deeply to help your body relax.
Vigorously move to stop palpitations through exercise.
Reduce anxiety in whatever way works best for your unique needs.

A rapid heartbeat can be caused by stress, anxiety, dehydration, low potassium, low blood sugar, too much caffeine, hormonal changes and certain prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs.

Other conditions that may cause heart flutters may include anemia or hyperthyroidism.

In some cases it can be dangerous when your heart is racing but not always.

Some cases of your heart racing are not serious and can be caused by stress, anxiety, exercise or less serious issues.

However if your heart continues to race or races too fast then it can be dangerous.

Things that can cause your heart to race include stress, anxiety, panic attacks, exercise, smoking, low blood sugar, low potassium, overactive thyroid, caffeine and even pregnancy.

If the heart palpitations are accompanied by shortness of breath, chest pain, chest discomfort and even fainting then the heart palpitations are an emergency and you should call 911 or get to the emergency room.
