An EPI stomach condition is an Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

The EPI means Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency which is a condition that happens when there's a problem with your pancreas, mainly with how well it helps you digest food.

Your pancreas makes enzymes that break down the fats, proteins, and starches you eat so your body can use them.

People with EPI are not able to absorb all the fat that they eat, so undigested fat is excreted, resulting in stools that look oily or greasy.

Not all people experience this symptom.

You can't cure EPI, but pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy can greatly reduce uncomfortable digestive symptoms.

Follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for taking PERT, and be sure to take it with every meal or snack.

A dietitian can help you get the fats, nutrients and vitamins you need for good health.

Without treatment, EPI can make you malnourished you won't get enough important vitamins and nutrients from your diet  and it can lead to other serious conditions, such as thinning bones (osteoporosis) or the blood condition anemia.

You could have problems with walking and balance.

When you have an EPI stomach condition you should try to limit the amount of fat you eat especially the saturated fats in animal-based foods, such as butter, cream, fatty cuts of red meat, organ meat, and poultry skin. Avoidfried, creamy, or cheesy foods, such as pastries.
