Your toddler keeps putting his hand in his diaper because he's either itchy down there, has discovered his penis and likes to play with it or the diaper is irritating him.

Sometimes your toddler may just be exploring his penis or may be digging in his diaper for poop or because he his bored.

It can also be a sensory issue as well.

It is normal for toddlers to smear poop all over.

Although it's gross when a toddler is smearing poop or playing with his or her poop it's normal and a relatively common behavior that is associated with a toddler's stage of development.

Your toddler will eventually outgrow the urge to smear poop.

Toddlers naturally want to explore and they can find the poop in their diaper fun to play with.

Many toddlers will poop in their diaper and then reach in the back of the diaper or remove the diaper and play with the poop.

Some toddlers will smear the poop all over the place with the diaper and their hands as well.

The best course of action to stop a toddler from playing with their poop and keep the toddler from smearing their poop is to prevent access to their diaper.

Put packing tape or duct tape around their diaper and keep a onesie or snap crotch diaper shirt on them and a pair of Pants or Pajamas.

Use some Little Keep Sleepers or footed Pajamas or Pajamas that zip up the back and secure them closed to prevent the toddler for accessing their diaper.

Also change the poopy diaper as soon as possible as when they don't have a poopy diaper they can't play with their poop.

Also give them something else to play with such as playdough.

If your child isn't able to find a suitable outlet for their senses, such as playing with paint or playdough, they might smear their feces instead.

This can include situations where your child doesn't have access to these outlets, such as at bedtime.
