The downside to being on disability are the low payouts that can be very hard to live on comfortably and many people on disability payments also face psychological challenges like loss of identity and you are often subject to ongoing medical reviews to maintain your SSDI eligibility for payments.

The payments for SSDI are often very low when compared to what you need to comfortably live and if you rent a place, the entire SSDI could be needed to cover rent alone and leave you with no money for food, utilities or anything else.

Some people need to work some and get paid under the table when on disability just to make ends meet.

If you work and get paid through check or direct deposit the SSA will known and will eventually cut your disability payments down, which defeats the purpose of the disability payments in the first place.

If you're able to find a job and can work, it's much better to earn more money at work than it is to rely on disability, although many people have no choice, but to rely on disability payments alone and many people on disability payments become homeless or are homeless, especially in today's world.

You can be on disability for life or SSDI or even SSI for life as long as your condition lasts for life and you cannot work a job.

Your case for disability payments and SSI or SSDI will be reviewed periodically to determine if you still meet the qualifications for getting disability payments and if your condition improves you may lose it and have to reapply or if you earn over a certain amount you may completely lose the SSDI or SSI.

There have been some people who have lost their SSDI or SSI benefits due to the SSA determining that they could work, even though they couldn't and so they would have to go get a lawyer and reapply again.

How often SSI and SSDI reviews your case will depend on the likelihood of improvement and your medical condition.

If medical improvement is expected, SSI and SSID will review your case every 6 months to 18 months.

If Medical improvement is possible, SSI and SSDI will review your case every 3 years.

And if Medical improvement is not expected, SSI and SSDI will review your case every 5 years to 7 years.

To get approved for disability fast, ensure that you have all supporting medical documents needed and submit a comprehensive as well as error free initial application.

Some health conditions that qualify you for disability payments may also qualify you for fast track programs like Compassionate Allowances or Quick Disability Determinations.

You can also request an expedited decision for disability payments through dire need, like imminent eviction or if you're a veteran with a 100 percent P&T rating.

If you haven't seen a doctor or if you're applying for disability for autism, social anxiety, anxiety, etc then you should see a doctor therapist and get treatment started.

It can take months and even a year or two to get approved for disability, so the sooner you start treatment the better.

Also if you're applying for SSI, you don't have to wait and can apply as soon as you're diagnosed and you should.

But you won't get approved right away in most cases as it can take a few months to several months to get approval for disability.

In most cases, disability payments and even SSI is often denied initially, but after the second or third try you can often get approved.

To improve your chances of getting approved for disability or SSI, you should also hire a disability payment lawyer or disability attorney who can help you with the paperwork and even the process through court to get approved.

You only pay the disability attorney or disability lawyer if approved and they take the amount out of the back pay that you get.

Having a disability attorney or disability lawyer is highly recommended in applying for disability payments as they can help you navigate the process and file any needed paperwork properly.
