A child between the ages of 9 to 18 years of age should drink between 3 cups to 3 glasses of milk per day.

Milk is very important for a child's growth and bone health.

However if the child will only drink one glass or one cup of milk per day it's better than no amount of milk.

Also children under 12 months of age shouldn't receive cow's milk at all.

Children aged 12 to 24 months should not consume more than 12 ounces of milk per day and toddlers over the age of 2 should not consume more than 32 ounces of milk per day.

Dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese are the richest sources of calcium.

Boys and girls ages 4 to 8 need 2.5 cups of dairy products per day, while children ages 9 to 18 need three cups per day.

Whole cows' milk can be given as a main drink from the age of 1.

Whole milk and full-fat dairy products are a good source of calcium, which helps your child build bones and keep teeth healthy.

They also contain vitamin A, which helps the body resist infections and is needed for healthy skin and eyes.

Because milk is filling but does not contain fiber, children may become constipated by drinking too much milk and eating fewer fiber-containing foods.

This can especially be a problem for toddlers who drink more than 16 to 20 ounces of milk each day.

Milk has long been associated with growing up to be big and strong.

One of the first scientific studies evaluating milk's relationship to childhood growth was conducted in 1928.

It estimated a 20% increase in weight and height among children who drank milk, compared with those who didn't.
