Should dog food be stored in plastic containers?

After opening a bag of dry dog food is it okay to leave the dog food in the open bag or should the dry dog food be stored in plastic containers?

You can put dog food into plastic containers which would be a better way to store it to keep out bugs.

But it's not required to store the dog food in containers to keep fresh if you don't want too.
