We feel cold when sick as a way of our body trying to produce heat and to fight off infection.

Chills are a sign of an infectious or inflammatory process.

When the body encounters an infection, the immune system sends white blood cells to fight it off, which results in inflammation and feelings of stiffness and achiness.

As soon as your brain shifts its internal thermostat to a higher set point to fight off an infection, the rest of your body goes to work trying to generate extra heat to meet that higher temperature goal.

Suddenly, you're technically below your new “ideal” core temperature, so you feel cold.

Most cold chills last around 2 days but in some cases the cold chills may last as long as 6 days.

When sick we get chills when the muscles in our body squeeze and relax to try to make heat.

This sometimes happens because you're cold, but it can also be an attempt by your immune system the body's defense against germs to fight off an infection or illness.

Cold chills when you have a cold or flu virus usually last between 2 to 6 days but sometimes may last longer.

Usually from my experience when I have the cold or flu and have chills the chills usually go away within 4 days of getting the flu or cold.

Then after around 7 or 10 days the flu or cold virus is gone and I'm feeling much better.

When you get sick with the flu or cold or other infection your muscles are contracting which means they are trying to keep your body warm.

Basically when you ave cold chills the cold chills are a result of rapid muscle contraction and relaxation which is normal during a cold or flu virus or other infections.

Although you feel chilled it's a way of your body producing heat when you're sick.

Cold chills can also sometimes be a sign of a disease known as malaria but if you have the cold or flu then it's normal for the cold chills to affect you.

The cold chills should go away within a few days to a week depending on how severe the cold or flu you have is.

Most times the cold or flu virus lasts between 7 to 14 days and all you can really do is drink plenty of fluids, rest and eat vitamin C foods and take over the counter cold or flu medicine.
